When can I fly with Myanmar Hot Air Ballooning?

As for oriental ballooning, the peak season in Bagan is October to April. They schedule early morning flights every day throughout this period. For other locations, including Mandalay and Inle Lake, please consult our website. As for balloons over bagan, they will operates at the second week of October through until the end of March. They will operate from the second week of October to the end of the first week on April as for golden eagle ballooning. From the second week of Decemeber to the second week of Janauary, the peak season they announced is that period.

How long do I need to allow for a balloon flight?

From pick up at your hotel, to returning to there, takes approximately about 3 or 4 hours.

How long is the flight?

Their flights on average last 45 minutes to one hour depending on the wind. Flights over 25 minutes are deemed completed. The whole experience including hotel pick ups and light champagne breakfast lasts between 2 ½ to 3 hours. Ballooning is also about watching the set up of the balloon, not just the flight itself. Not knowing where you are going to land is always exciting and part of the adventure.

Is my flight safe?

Hot air ballooning is an extremely safe activity which is highly regulated in Myanmar with strict safety guidelines. All they are licensed by the Department of Civil Aviation and all of our pilots hold full commercial pilot’s licences. Their balloons are built to the highest standards of the British aerospace industry in the UK and imported to Myanmar. They operate under an aviation with in-house engineers and inspectors who were all qualified in the UK. All of their ground crew regularly receive first aid and fire fighting training by UK and Myanmar Public Transport Inspectors.

How far and how high do we go?

Hot air balloons fly with the wind so the distance travelled depends on the wind speed. Typically you will travel between 5 and 10km. Your pilot will alter the height the balloon travels at throughout the flight to give you the best views. At times you will glide along at tree-top height and at others you will be given a panoramic view from 2000 ft/600m (Bagan and Mandalay), and up to 6000ft/2000m over Inle Lake.

How many people will there be in the basket?

Balloon baskets, like balloons come in different sizes. Oriental Ballooning is proud to offer you compartmented baskets for your safety and comfort. There will only be one or two other passengers in the same compartment as you. They have sectioned balloon baskets that accommodate at total of 4, 6, 8 or 12 passengers. The standard service of balloons over bagan | inle & safari carry 16 passengers and their premium service carry 8 passengers. Each basket is partitioned so that the pilot compartment with all the flight equipment is separate to the passengers. All our baskets contain safety equipment so that passengers are seated during landing.

Can my child go ballooning?

Passengers aged 8 or older can be flown, as long as they are at least 137cm tall (4ft6in). Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied on the flight by a responsible adult. Sorry, we don’t offer reduced fares for children.

Why do i have to give my weight?

It is important that we receive the correct weight of each passenger at the time of booking as the total combined total weight of all the passengers on board is an important calculation made by each pilot during their pre-flight safety checks.

I'm scared of heights?

Ballooning does not usually affect those people who are scared of heights. Because the balloon travels with the wind, the basket is very stable and does not sway or rock during flight. There is no sense of vertigo or motion.

What do we see?

The exciting thing is that every balloon flight is different. You will see ballooning destination waking up in the morning. You will see many temples in the distance and get a spectacular aerial view of ballooning destination, bagan, inle, mandalay as well as ngapali. Sometimes you may fly over villages and see people on their early morning rounds, feeding their animals; or going to market. It is an amazing and interactive experience.
